Re: mirena coil cured endo symptoms
Hi there,
I'm 39 years old and have a long history of severe endometriosis. Nothing helped.
In July 2002 I had the mirena fitted under GA whilst I was also having another laparoscopy.
The uterine pain following mirena insertion was shockingly severe everyday for a few months and remained pretty bad for a whole year.
I also puffed up, put on weight, bled every day, had bladder pains and suffered insomnia. I kept going back to my surgeon asking for it to be taken out as the pain was unbearable. Each time she persuaded me to perservere - telling me it's just taking time for my uterus to settle. It was awful, I even had to leave my job and look for a more sedentary occupation!
I did perservere though and after a year my symptoms were so much better. In fact I felt really good and lost all the weight too. Then I had it taken out in July 2004 as I wanted a baby.
The pre-mirena endo symptoms returned full-on immediately but miraculously within 2 months I was pregnant! Yay - no endo pain for 9 months!
I had a beautiful baby girl. Unfortunately as soon as I stopped expressing breast milk the endo symptoms returned and worse than ever. I have severe pain now every month from midcycle until just prior to my period, it's no fun.
I am now faced with the option of more surgery and another mirena.
Can't bear the thought of another mirena as initially the side effects were just so horrendous. But as things did eventually get better I am seriously considering it.
Any feedback would be much appreciated as I just don't know what to do!
