Re: Mankind - the product of de-evolution?
Of course civilization and evolution are different concepts but in terms of human evolution, one directs the other. However, saying that biological evolution in humans occurs in a vacuum from sociological factors is ridiculous. In fact there probably isn’t anything more determinant in our survival (i.e. evolution) than our success or dominance in socializing and organizing with other human beings - the more powerful the group, the more dominant we become.
So it’s no wonder that as you say, dominant groups tend to dehumanize less dominant groups by supremacist ethnic stereotypes and ultimately war, genocide, slavery, occupation, etc. But these dominant traits of greed, aggression, deceit, ruthlessness, etc. are being reinforced and concentrated in the gene pool just as we need the opposite traits of humanitarianism, empathy and selflessness as our only possible line of defense from our own overwhelming power to annihilate our species literally from one minute to the next. Cheery I know.
