Some more info....
i work part-time in a vet office and most of the appointments are for routine vaccines. in my opinion they totally over vaccinate the animals. the doctors also push the lyme vaccine on the clients which as far as i know hasn't been proven effective. they also say it is okay to give vaccines again 1,2, or even 3 months before they are due, which i am completely appalled by. i try to tell clients to wait and that it really isn't necessary but i have to make sure the owner isn't around. anyway, in my opinion we completely over medicate animals and people alike. i have seen 2 dogs who had some sort of auto-immune disease that was caused by vaccines. (i am working tomorrow so i will find out the clinical name for it) below is a link to an article i found very interesting. for my own dog, she will be getting the rabies vaccine every 2 years (only because she plays with other dogs at the park, etc) but the others - dhlpp, bord - she might never get again. she did have the full routine though when she was a puppy. the first dog that i had received her puppy shots and maybe 1 or 2 more years of rabies but nothing after that and she lived to 14 and was healthy until the end. i am not knocking the doctors i work with - they are brilliant and when clinical cases come in they are wonderful, they just have absolutely no connection with homeopathic medicine. hope the artical helps.
ps- for anyone who has their dog tested for lyme disease and or heartworm - the lyme test will show if your dog is +or- for heartworm also. they don't tell you that but it is in one of the brochures they hand out, but i have yet to encounter a client that realized that. it's just something that can save you a couple of bucks. where i work they charge for heartworm and lyme separately but don't tell you that the lyme test is suffcient enough.
