I have to throw in my 2 cents

First, let me say that no one should judge the best solution to a terrible situation.
My Golden Retriever, Brandy, was diagnosed with Lymphoma at 10 years old. My vet said this is very common in Red Goldens, you can try chemo, or just give her prednisone so she feels good. You'll have 60 to 90 days. Dogs don't know they're supposed to be sick from chemo, so they usually aren't...maybe people are because they're told they will be. Because of her age, (dollars were not part of the equation) we decided not to do the chemo. We got Prednisone pills and took her home. I had read somewhere that sharks don't get cancer and shark cartiledge pills helped.....I didn't have anything to lose, so I tried it. My dog also ate pills like candy, so pills were no problem....7 prednisones and 4 shark cartiledge at day, easy with her! My vet did not endorse the shark cartiledge, and thought I was wasting my money. My biggest concern was how would I know when it was time. My vet said don't worry, she'll tell you.

Well, on the prednisone, she was always hungry! She only had 60 to 90 days, so, give her whatever she wants! After about 6 months and 15 pounds, my vet said to stop feeding her so much....but, I said, she's dying, why deprive her?
After a year, she had gained 30 pounds, from a fit 80 to 110. She was happy......fat, but happy! My vet finally said, whatever you're doing, keep on doing. After 14 months, she suddenly started going downhill. About 5 days later, she laid down, and didn't want to eat anymore. She was telling me it was over. So, I did the right thing for her.
Broke my heart...I can almost feel tears welling up now, and it's been almost 4 years.

I would never tell anyone what decision to make. You have to do what you feel is best.
