a day is the length of time it takes earth (in this case) to spin once around completely on its axis.
a year is the length of time it takes the earth (in this case) to orbit one time completely around the sun.
a day on venus or jupiter is different from an earth day. and so on.
the large gaseous planets spin faster and have shorter days than earth, and they have longer years because they are farther away from the sun than earth.
the large stone calendars and certain buildings such as the Great Pyramid were built partially to help determine just how much "time" has gone by as well as any shifts in the planet's axis and/or land masses after times when the "earth stands still" ... a (fill in the blank) of the earth internalizing its energy for a magnetic pole shift.
