Brainfog has a variety of symptoms including poor memory, difficulties using language, and difficulties with learning. These symptoms tend to descend in a haze or "fog," around the sufferer. It appears epitomised by poor language skill, like a kind of dyslexia, problems remembering numbers, finding the right words, spelling, retaining new information etc. It appears that this is an all too common condition reported by people with a congested liver complaint. It looks to be linked to the descending spiral of chronic poor health involving brain chemistry, sleep deprivation, sleep disorders, decreased blood flow and depression. Studies show that in poor health blood flow to certain areas of the brain responsible for creating short term memories is reduced.

Low level latent pain in the liver area causes stress and gnaws away at the brain diverting its attention from cognitive tasks. Try thinking logically if you’re upset of angry and scale that down to the chronic underlying poor temperament that you get from nagging poor health. Depression lowers the levels of serotonin in the brain, preventing new memories from being laid down. Low levels of serotonin are also linked with learning difficulties.

Poor posture caused by holding a latent liver pain because it causes muscle trigger points to form in the digastric muscles which block the drainage channels from the brain. Applying heat packs to these muscle and gentle massage them clears the trigger points and releases the build up of toxin allowing the brain to clear. In general hot bath enriched with magnesium sulphate are a excellent muscle relaxant and detoxifier.

Reactive hypoglycaemia may have a contributory and perpetuator effect on brain-fog. These conditions also affect the flow of blood to the brain. Reactive hypoglycaemia is possibly the most common reason for hypoglycaemia in non-diabetics. This form of hypoglycaemia is probably caused by an overproduction of insulin from the pancreas after a large meal with a lot of carbohydrates. The insulin can still be detected even after several hours, although the level should be back to normal at this time. Type-2 diabetes can also be implicated with brain-fog where insulin-producing cells of the pancreas are unable to cope with the need to produce a surge of insulin after a meal. Type-2 diabetes is also synonymous with thrush and other yeast infections.

After we eat the intestines are rich in nutrients and this is transported to the liver through the portal vein. Consequently the portal blood pressure increases at the system blood pressure falls slightly as the blood is redistributed. Less blood to our muscles and brain result in tiredness and this effect is often felt 2 to 3 hours after eating. Usually around 3.00 pm in the afternoon.
