Re: Ulcerative colitis question
Hi Cathay,
Glad to see you're up and running again!
We had a couple of really beautiful days here in the Windy City, but today is more of a typical autumn day...cooler, damp and cloudy. Oh well...it just makes you appreciate the nice days all the more.
Colonics are perfectly safe for mild to moderate ulcerative colitis. They are generally contraindicated if one is experiencing an active stage of severe colitis where bleeding is present. Likewise for colon cleansing and a high fiber diet. Usually when one is quite symptomatic with severe colitis a soft food diet is recommended until some of the inflammation has subsided. Colon cleansing (colonics, herbs, fiber, bentonite) are definitely beneficial for mild to moderate colitis, although additional steps are needed to repair the intestinal lining. Glutamine is very beneficial for healing and regenerating the mucosal lining, essential fatty acids, probiotics and fiber are all necessary, and herbs such as slippery elm, marshmallow, deglycyrrhizinated licorice, and aloe vera juice are all soothing and promote healing. As usual, candida and
parasites may also need to be addressed.
Ulcerative colitis is usually diet related and results from low fiber intake, excessive
Sugar and carbohydrates, dairy products, too few fruits and vegetables and food allergens. Stress also plays a significant role...as it does with any digestive dysfunction.
Chronic diarrhea is characteristic of many conditions besides colitis...irritable bowel syndrome, candida, parasites, Crohn's disease,
food sensitivities or allergies, Celiac disease, stress, bacterial or viral infections, food poisoning, caffeine use, contaminated water, pancreatic disease, some medications, excessive intake of magnesium or vit. C, etc. etc. Some of these can also cause constipation, or alternating the two. Pain can accompany any of these, as well, and lower back and pelvic pain are particularly common.
It may seem contradictory, but diarrhea is often another expression of constipation. As the colon becomes more impacted with old mucoid material the passage for fecal material becomes narrowed and less water is absorbed from the waste due to the blockages. Since less water is absorbed the fecal material remains in a more liquid or semi-solid state and the transit time is quicker, hence diarrhea.
A thorough colon cleansing is essential in healing any of these conditions, unless bleeding and excessive inflammation are present that might be aggravated by increased fiber. Once these symptoms subside, colon cleansing and
colonics are safe to use.
You're probably right about the connection between your back pain and your colon. The last part of the colon, the sigmoid, is located on the lower left side and this is where fecal material will be the most solid. Try increasing your water intake and make sure you heed nature's call as soon as you feel the slightest urge so that the waste is eliminated as quickly and easily as possible.
Hope this helps. You may find that you have even greater success with the
Liver Flushes if you do a really good colon cleansing first.
Warm regards,
Pam
