Healing, Catabolism and Water Fasting

I have been doing some studying on why Water Fasting is a superior form of healing. While I have seen a lot of health improvement since doing several of the cleanses discussed on Curezone, I seem to have reached a plateau where there has not been much change lately. This seems to be a time to go in another direction and try something else. I want to try a Water Fast in spring after 4-6 weeks of preparation and gentle detox through diet.
Water Fasting involves taking absolutely nothing but pure (usually distilled) water for a period of time. In a true Water Fast no other food, juice, supplement or medicine is ingested. In fact, it is essential that nothing else be used in order for the body to begin the process of catabolism. When there is no food of any kind to digest for fuel the body begins catabolizing old tissue, cells, toxins and other unneeded materials, some elements of these tissues are used as fuel for energy, while the rest is eliminated as waste. During the first few days of fasting the body's metabolic rate is still high and waste material is quickly used and eliminated. This over abundance of toxic waste is what causes the unpleasant symptoms of a healing crisis.
After a short period of time the metabolism slow down and the true healing of the Water Fast begins. The rapid elimination of toxins is slowed down so the healing crisis is minimal. As the fast continues the body draws deeper and deeper to gather the necessary materials for fuel. Catabolism is this breaking down of unnecessary tissue. Many believe that in prolonged fasts that even cancerous tumors will be digested and removed from the body. In shorter fasts fatty deposits, bacteria, yeast, abcesses and fungal growths can be eliminated. Deposits of old salt and other mineral crystals are removed from the joints, yet essential minerals will not be leached from the bones. Mucus that clogs the intestines, sinuses, and even neural tubes is also digested or eliminated. AS long as the body has excess tissue to feed it, it will not consume muscle, bone or organ tissues. This only happens when the body enters starvation mode.
This list is taken from the book Fasting To Freedom by Ron Lagerquist and Tom MCGregor:
What is eliminated during the cleansing process
*Dead, dying or diseased cells
*Excess fatty tissue
*Trans fatty acids
*Hardened coating of mucus on intestinal wall
*Toxic waste matter in the lymphatic system and bloodstream
*Toxins in the spleen, liver and kidneys
*Mucus from the lungs and sinuses
*Imbedded toxins in the cellular fibers and deeper organ tissues
*Deposits in the microscopic tubes responsible for nourishing brain cells.
Many of these same results are also listed in the Bragg books.
Water fasting is serious. It should not be entered into without study and preparation. A true fast should continue without any solid food (nothing of any kind with a true water fast)until it is time to break the fast. Then the body must be slowly and gently reintroduced to solids. Because the metabolic rate slows quite drasticly after 3-7 days, a water fast is not a good choice for weight loss. While some weight will be lost the first few dys, weight loss will slow considerably as the fast continues. When the fasting period ends, weight can be gained back very rapidly if the fast is improperly broken. It can take weeks or even months for the metabolisn to quicken.
For most people a series of fasts will be needed to affect desired healing. During the time between fasting proper diet and health practices are essential.
