Re: flushing mechanism
Hi Alan
My understanding of the gallbladder is that it is a storage tank first, a dehydrator and concentrator of bile second, and a bile pump third. The pumping aspect is what you are asking about.
At the beginning of the cleanse all of the concentrated bile is pumped from storage in the gallbladder to the intestine, including some or all of the stones that were held in the gallbladder. This is usually not enough bile to emulsify all of the oil contained in the cleanse drink so the gallbladder keeps receiving hormonal signal/request from the intestine for more bile. It answers this by repeatedly contracting and relaxing, acting like a diaphragm pump to pull bile out of the liver and push it down and out to the intestine, liver stones and all. In the relaxing phase, the gallbladder can allow new bile from the liver to enter, along with any small liver stones since there is no filter to keep stones out of the gallbladder.
So hypothetically, you could have more stones in the gallbladder after the cleanse than before you started it. But stones in the gallbladder are much less of a problem than those in the liver, and it is the liver stones which are the real target of the cleanse. New small stones in the gallbladder are not a problem, and they may even pass out on their own with fatty meals which completely empty the gallbladder regularly.
Once all of the stones in the liver are removed and the dietary causes which created them are removed then subsequent "liver" cleanses will empty out the remaining gallbladder stones quickly. Depending on dietary changes, the bile may be much stronger solvent for cholesterol, and it will dissolve the stones in the gallbladder too.
Hava nice day
