Re: happydog
GALLONS of M&M's? That's so sad.
For my birthday this past year (I'm twenty-something) my aunt fixed this awesome vegan lunch. Lots of raw dishes like curried kale, dandelion green salad in macadamia cream sauce, etc. Also asian wraps with cooked brown rice, asian style, with sprouts and mushrooms and a sauce. And pitas with a red cabbage slaw. It was all so very refreshing, delicious, and satisfying.
Instead of "cake" they had made a beautiful layered dessert with sliced fruit (strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, raspberries, mango) layered with nut cream.
It was phenomonally delicious! I had a great birthday.
My cousin is raising her baby as a vegan (high raw). He was not quite a year old at the time. He LOVED the layered fruit dessert, it was the cutest thing for us to watch him eat it. He really chowed down! So they made that dish again for his 1st birthday, since he liked it so much. He certainly wasn't missing any cake.
If I think about it, most cakes aren't all that good. I mean, a truly delicious cake is something to enjoy eating occasionally, but most of the cakes I have eaten in my life just weren't that good. Hindsight is 20/20, huh? These days I still eat cake occasionally but it has to be the BEST!!! None of these stale, dull bakery cakes for me, no thank you.
