I had my gallbladder out when I was 21. I am now 57, but from what I remember, the gall stones that were surgically removed were very similar to what is coming out of my liver now. However, since these problems seem to run in families, I have seen stones that were removed from the gallbladder of relatives of mine and some were completely calcified...just like a stone. So I think that when the stones are trapped in the gallbladder for a long time, they may tend to calcify more so than the ones in the liver.
