It looks like you've done your homework...good for you.

Many yoga studios offer a discounted or free first class. I would recommend trying a few to find one that "feels right" for you. You will know if you feel comfortable pretty quickly.

Yoga is for everyone. It is not a religion. Hinduism is also at its root not a religion, though it is generally treated that way. I have found some students that are uncomfortable with certain aspects of a broader yoga practice (like chanting mantras for example). A lot of yoga studios in the west tend to de-emphasize these practices and focus strictly on the asana, or physical aspect of yoga practices. In the East, yes, the goal is higher consciousness, or merging the individual consciousness with the divine consciousness.

Enjoy the practice. You certainly don't have to set aside your beliefs to practice yoga. They will go well together.
