Re: Questions
Hi Dave,
It sounds like you have the same thing I have - MCS and
food allergies ! I'm about 70% recovered, and continuing to improve. Based on my experience, I have some theories on what causes MCS, allergies, and most other immune-related illnesses (such as CFS/GWS/Fibromyalgia/Chronic Lyme/etc.) I believe there are several different causes, but the end result is the same.
1. One cause is due exposure to what are called "chronic neurotoxins". There are certain toxins that stay in your system, and the body is not able to get rid of them. They have special properties that prevent them from being eliminated. Or, in other cases the amount of toxins in your body is so large, that it can take many years to eleminate them. In your case, I'd say that you were exposed to Ciguatera or Pfiesteria toxins. These toxins are created by pathogens that infect fish, and then humans eat the toxins in the fish. Since your problems began after eating fish, I'd say that that is likely your problem. Other sources of chronic neurotoxins are from air-borne mold and fungus toxin exposure in buildings or bathrooms(sick-building syndrome) which are inhaled, and also certain bacterial and fungal infections can produce these toxins (such as in chronic Lyme Disease, and other bacterial and fungal diseases). Also certain pesticides, heavy metals, etc can cause these problems as well. The symptoms depend on what toxins you've been exposed to, and probably genetics as well. There is a doctor (Dr. Shoemaker), who is using the drug Cholestyramine to bind to the toxins, and remove them from your system. A cheaper way is using activated charcoal (available at health food stores and online), or
Bentonite clay, since they work in the same way as Cholestyramine. However, all of these products will bind to bile acids, and when taken in large amounts, or for an extended length of time, they can cause
Gallstones and bile congestion, which can actually make your condition worse (unless you do liver flushes.) Visit Dr. Shoemakers site at: www.chronicneurotoxins.com
2. A second cause is simply due to having bile and gallstone congestion due to having gallstones, and especially intra-hepatic stones, and perhaps also a bacterial, viral, or
parasite infection of the liver as well. When you have this problem, your liver is simply incapable of filtering out all the normal toxins in your blood, and they back up, causing the same symptoms as above (allergies, MCS, etc), and you will also have bad digestion (gas, bloating, pain, etc) due to a lack of bile excretion. In more extreme cases, this can cause light-colored or yellow stools (due to a lack of bile excretion.) The toxins aren't neccessarily the chronic neurotoxins mentioned above, but are just normal toxins that are not being eleminated by the liver into the bile. Of course, it's entirely possible that some people have BOTH chronic neurotoxins and bile congestion... The best way to treat liver congestion is by doing the Dr. Clark liver flush, and following the Optimal Diet (see below.)
It sounds like you and I have the exact same symptoms, but I think my problem is mostly due to a congested liver, rather than chronic neurotoxins. However, since I don't know for sure, I've done many different therapies. Obviously something I'm doing is working, but I don't know which ones have been effective, and which haven't...
Here's what I've been doing:
"The Optimal Diet" (see below)
A total of about 10 liver flushes.
Parasite/antimicrobial/antifungal herbs three times per day for several months followed by several months of peroxide therapy three times per day (taking antimicrobial herbs and peroxide several times a day for several weeks is VERY important in order to prevent the infection from coming back, and having a relapse of the infection, which can happen if you don't take them frequently enough for a long enough period of time.)
Homemade Kefir (a natural fermented probiotic drink)
Acidophilus Pearls (a good source of enteric-coated probiotics)
Hot baths (hyperthermia treatment)
Excercise
A 10 day water fast
Activated charcoal
A common reccomendation is to avoid foods and chemicals that you react to, and I believe this is good advice, however, in my case I've been unable to do this, because I've been reacting to ALL foods and liquids (even water). However, I've been able to improve about 70% even WHILE eating foods I react to, so I don't believe it's absolutely neccessary (but still probably a good idea)
I've always had allergies my whole life, but I got most of my
food allergies after going on a raw fruit diet for six months, and then fasting for a month. It is known that prolonged fasting and avoidance of fats can cause
Gallstones and liver congestion, and I believe this is perhaps what originally caused my problem. However, I've had allergies (such as hay fever and hives) my whole life, so perhaps my liver has always been somewhat congested, and these just made it worse. I had a liver infection (hepatitus) when I was young, so maybe that is what originally started it...
However, I was able to overcome these allergies by avoiding the foods I was allergic to for a month, as well as adopting a low-carb/high-fat diet similar to what is called the "Optimal Diet" (see below for more info). This is the same way that the
Liver Flush works: the large amount of fat in the olive oil stimulates the liver and gallbladder to release the congestion. Sort of like triggering the liver to sneeze!
However, all my
food allergies soon came back after taking several rounds of
Antibiotics for a month for a prostate infection. I had an allergic reaction to the Cipro I was taking, and then developed pale/yellow stools (a sign of extreme bile/liver congestion), as well as bad digestion (gas, bloating, pain, etc), and very bad chemical senstivities. I started doing the
Liver Flushes (and got LOTS of stones out) and the Optimal Diet, and most of my MCS reactions went away. Certain odors still bothered me however, and my
food reactions were still pretty bad.
I had to stop doing the
Liver Flushes (I became overly sensitive to them, and even the thought of doing them would make me throw-up) Instead, I've continued to follow the Optimal Diet, as well as peroxide therapy, antimicrobial herbs (using tinctures such as
Black-Walnut hull,
Wormwood , cloves, olive leaf, and oil of oregano), and activated charcoal, and began making homemade kefir (a fermented probiotic drink). As of a few weeks ago, my MCS was almost completely gone, my food allergies were about 70% improved, and I had lots of energy, and my digestion was much better! I was feeling great!!
However, suddenly my digestion took a turn for the worse, and all my food allergies came back (but not the MCS). I was taking huge doses of activated charcoal (to absorb toxins), but I believe it also absorbed all my bile salts, and eventually clogged up my liver again. My stools turned yellow again. I tried fasting for about 10 days, and I felt much better. When I started eating again, my allergies and digestion were a lot better. However, my stools were still yellow, and after about a week, of gradually increasing my food intake, my allergies and bad digestion came back again!
However, I just did a
Liver Flush a couple nights ago(it had been about six months since my last one, and I was able to do it without throwing up), and I got out about 100 stones and a lot of "chaff", and my stools are now normal again, and my digestion and allergies are now much better! I'm feeling good again!
I believe that while fasting is helpful for giving the liver a break, it can also cause bile congestion. It's well known (you can look it up on a medical website) that two of the causes for
Gallstones are prolonged fasting and dieting. Without fats or oils in the diet bile doesn't get expelled from the liver. (Fat or oil triggers the liver and gallbladder to expel bile for digestion.) This results in bile stasis and gallstones.
Also, while charcoal and
Bentonite are great for binding toxins (especialy chronic neurotoxins), they can also cause bile congestion because they also remove bile salts from the body. (Too little bile salts causes stones to form.) So, while I think that fasting and activated charcoal and
Bentonite are very helpful, I think that
Liver Flushes should also be done in order to flush out any stones that may form.
Also, when the liver is clogged with stones, it creates an easy way for even more stones to form behind the old ones (as well as for liver infections to develop.) In order to prevent this, I've been following the Optimal Diet for about eight months now. It is a low-carb diet with plenty of fats. It will encourage your liver and gallbladder to release bile after each meal, to prevent congestion. It was invented by a doctor in Poland, and has cured many people of many different diseases including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, allergies, IBS, IBD, Chron's, Ulcerative Colitus, Multiple Sclerosis, gallstones and many other diseases. It is similar to other low-carb diets, and emphasizes natural fats as the main source of calories instead of starches and sugar. I've had fantastic results following this diet, as have many other people...

For more information on eating healthfully (the way our ancestors and primitive people ate) visit the Weston A. Price Foundation website: www.westonaprice.org Their advice is very similar to the Optimal Diet. I followed the advice of the Optimal Diet and the Weston A. Price Foundation, and I believe they've played a very big part in my getting well.
Here's a good link about the traditional primitive diets of our ancestors:

For more info on peroxide therapy go to:
//www.curezone.org/forums/f.asp?f=193 I've posted lots of messages about peroxide therapy in this forum. Peroxide therapy is VERY effective in clearing up any kind of infection (bacterial, viral, fungal, parasites, etc), as well as oxidizing toxins, so that the liver can more effeciently remove them (such as chronic nuerotoxins, heavy metals, PCB's, etc, etc)
