Re: A question for you + an interesting website

"'double-blind' studies are designed with pharmaceuticals in mind only. Demanding that they be tested in this way..."

That is just plain false. Randomized, controlled, d.b. studies certainly *can* look at mechanism, but that's not even what I'm proposing. I'm talking about a simple effectiveness trial...no matter how the agent works whether "on the bloodstream" (not sure what you mean by that...alternative medicines use the bloodstream too) or "energetically" (not sure what you mean by that either...could you be more clear?), an effectiveness trial doesn't look at mechanism, it just looks at results. And no, demanding that they be tested that way doesn't expose a lack of knowledge of how alternatives work...I'm certainly open to the fact that I don't know how they work...the question is *do* they work, whether it's via "energy" or some other unknown mechanism. And multiple testimonals on CureZone, magazines, other websites, etc., simply cannot answer that question in a scientific way.

If I head to the doc and he wants to give me a pill, I'm going to want to know a lot about it. If he says, "Well, I don't know too much about this drug...I looked it up on quite a few health websites, and I counted, oh, about 5000 posts of people saying it worked for them...maybe even 10,000. Side effects...eh...I'm not sure...there might be a few, but I'm not sure what they are. How it works in your body...eh...couldn't tell ya. All I know is that a lot of people say it works for them, and that's good enough for me. Heck, my own sister took it, and she said it worked for her. Here ya go."

I'm sorry lovetobehealthy...for me, that's nowhere near good enough, whether it be drug or herb, and it shouldn't be for you or anyone else either. And if you did go to the doctor, you'd want to know (justifiably!) a whole lot more about what he's telling you to put in your body. In fact, I'd hope you'd walk right out of the above doctor's door for the response he gave! If you truly want more people to turn to alternative medicine, i.e., so it's not so "alternative" anymore, it will have to undergo rigorous scientific testing, at the *very* least, effectiveness trials. "Demanding that they be tested this way..." is not showing a lack of knowledge, it's practicing healthy living in a careful, *responsible* manner. Your assertion that the mechanism by which alternatives affect your body somehow excludes it from being tested for plain ol' effectiveness is just plain false.
