I think those old superstitions are due to the fact of the dragonfly being a water/air insect....bringing the subconscious into Consciousness...and in the old days Subconscious/Unconscious stuff was something to be Feared like the Devil...ya know? The DARKNESS...oooooh...Darkness within! hmmmmm....
