Hi Lori,
To me I really don't know if things look like they are going to have to get better soon. Didn't it seem that way in the 60s? Wasn't there much more optimism then than now and it just dissolved. I was thinking about the term 'new age' yesterday evening and it seemed to me that the term itself says something about the appeal of the concept because like at every point throughout history things have looked bleak for many around the world (and looked optimistic for others) and the promise of 'new age' thinking is that there's a better world right around the corner that we're about to enter. It's easy to tell why people with fear would be into that idea. There's a verse in revelations about "words that tickle the hearing." I have been feeling very uptight the past couple weeks though, no doubt about that.
I'd like to ask you about one of specific thing Karen says because some of what you said in your response to Karlin made sense to me.
She says everyone is going to move into the work they want and work that makes them feel good but it just isn't possible for everyone to do that as there are jobs society needs doing that it's hard for me to believe anyone could really want... things like supermarket cashier, trash picker uppers, data entry zombies. I've been those things and I deserved to be those things and while it was consellation that they were things that needed doing I wouldn't have been content doing them for a long period of my life. There are always going to have to be the majority of the people at the bottom of a delegation pyramid, that's the way it is and always has been, in all nature too, you know like worker ants in a colony...
