Hello Lapis
I found Eckankar within the past few years. Before I became a member, I read everything and anything that was written on the internet to disclaim Eckankar. What I found was a lot of angry people. They have the right to be because they felt they were mislead. Me, on the otherhand, I came in with my eyes wide open and knew about the controversies. Still I was able to find that the teachings rang true for me. I found the simple spiritual exercises really did work. I was able to use the tools given to follow my own inner guidance. I believe Harold Klemp is a great spiritual teacher - all I ever heard coming from him is nothing but love. I agree that there are a lot of things in the early written books that sound "funny" but I also believe in free will. I take only the things I need and leave all the rest alone. No one says you got to take Eckankar 100%. Does any religion for that matter not have its controversies? Maybe this is done so that you can exercise you own free will. I just want to say that it works for me, it taught me about a love that I didn't know existed, and I am a better person for it. Like Tina Turner would ask "what does love got to do with it?" The answer is everything :-)
