Re: Andreas/All: Food Pyramid Conspiracy
Hi. I'm new here to Andreas forum.
Helen I totally agree with you. I don't think it's so much a conspiracy as people are pressed for time and convenience food is just that, convenient. Nutritious, no, just convenient. I had a discussion with my dear father about apples. You know, the shiny ones. He grew apples and complained because some of my siblings didn't want any of them, because they didn't look right. They were used to the shiny ones from the grocery. Of course they were shiny, the wax coating helped preserve them in transit. I have seen first hand the difference convenience has made. My father, uncle and aunt, who all left the farm for the "big" city, had all lived to fairly old age (78-80)....but my uncle who has remained on the farm and grown his own veggies and raised his own chickens, pigs and beef, is the oldest and only one remaining, is now 85. Sharp as a tack and still very mobile. My grandmother who also stayed on the farm died when she was 88. She ate bacon and eggs every morning for breakfast. But she knew exactly what she chicken and pigs ate. They weren't fed growth hormones or antibotics. It's not the eggs that are bad for us or the bacon. It's what the "factory" farms are feeding the chickens that's bad for us. I remember seeing a tv program about them adding something to chicken feed to ensure that the shells wouldn't crack in transit. What does that do to the nutritional value of the egg if it affects the eggshell. Sorry for rambling on. I just think that as consumers, if we demanded convenience, we can demand nutritional. We just need to support the local grower/farmer.
