Re: Recurring thoughts.....
Dear Kate,
I would like to comment on your thought-provoking questions.
Christians visit this site with a unique worldview. We recognize God’s sovereignty over our lives, yet we understand that we each have the human responsibility to be wise stewards with the bodies He has given us. We understand that our bodies are literally temples of the Holy Spirit, and as such, we must make every effort to properly care for them. We firmly believe that ultimately Jesus Christ alone is the Great Physician, yet He has also provided many physical tools within alternative and orthodox medicine that are ‘means of grace’, to assist us in the healing process.
As Christians, our role is to glorify God. The true ‘health’ message of the Bible is first and foremost about our ‘spiritual healing’, or salvation. The Good News is that the Bible alone sufficiently reveals that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. To God alone be Glory!
The Bible also contains a powerful physical health message along with many wonderful healing promises, but all that pales next to the importance of our spiritual healing found only in the Gospel. When searching out physical healing methods, we must be especially vigilant, because we know that our enemy is indeed at work in this world. Our adversary always mixes truth with lies, and he has worked his way into all the affairs of men on the earth. Our only hope is complete dependence on God and His Gospel, along with lots of prayer, Bible study, Christian fellowship, faith, hope, love, etc.
God is sovereign. At the same time, we are responsible for our choices. Thankfully, the times of our lives are indeed in God’s hands (read Psalms 31:15). We must remember to care for our bodies, but at the same time not get so wrapped up in health maintenance that we begin to worship the created body, rather that the Creator. We cannot love life more than we love the Creator of life. You can be certain that our enemy will try to distract us by tempting us to go to any extremes. This can easily happen in the world of alternative medicine, with an almost endless array of healing choices to made. We must always take our stand firmly on the solid Rock of Jesus Christ—all other ground is sinking sand.
