YOu are on a ceramic kick it sounds...which is fine if glazed, but do you have anything against glass?
Note the Kombucha mother is analagous to a vinegar mother...
And from what I've read of Kombucha is that the mother is actually a symbiotic community of several biotes of the living world - "fungus" is not really what it is.
