I would argue that animals do have these emotions AND cognitive thought. Now, whether or not it is ALL species, I cannot say, however I have seen these emotions in horses, my dog and cat, and swear I have observed cognitive thought as well. In other words I have witnessed their planned thought turn into action, while hunting or moving to protect what they believe needs protected with an understanding of the risk involved.
