Re: Is anyone here a working artist?
Oh Sofia, I was always the Queen of Me. That's was the thing, my child humbled me. That's the nice side. The truly ugly side was being Mommy On Call all the time. I think that's the most honest statement I can make.
Do you have a partner? If so, that was my savior. Even a friend. You need to get away sometimes. That's the time you can do art. If you were like me, you need that space, or you can't be a great Mom. You can be a decent Mom, but not a GREAT Mom. Babysitter, husband, friend. And this can't be just once, this has to be on some sort of schedule, like once a week, almost full day.
Then you can dream about your art and fulfill your fantasy once alone. It does not make you a neglectful Mom, it makes you...You.
And, I've heard this more than once. Artists who have children have a renaissance soon after. It's like an outpouring. It's like your child is becoming more independent, and all this pent up creativity just comes pouring out. I got extremely entrepreneurial when he turned about 2-1/2. And it didn't stop. That is, unless, you have another!
Aw, you're normal. No worries there.
Peace to you. Molly
