Re: Just Classics: Citizen Kane
Ohhh, sense and sensibility! I knew I had that one coming. You are definitely a chick flick gal! LOL
Well, really, "Great" is probably only an ideal. And ideal, jean renoir said, exists only in the mind not in reality. That's something to ponder about, heh.
Yeah, the bottom line is that we enjoy the movie. That it touches and inspires us. :) Not that we become grumpy old movie critics--pleads guilty LOL. A film of teacher of mine once told me, "Expecting the world to entertain you results in boredom." One can actually miss the experience of a great movie because they're expecting too much!
Anyways, putting the old grumpy critic aside, I enjoyed Crouching Tiger too! American Beauty didn't do much for me though. Looking through your list I can only say that I watched Hitchcock's The Great Escape (didn't know why other critics have raved that it was so great though :P). I hear Annie Hall is one of the must-sees. Hmm, if you were to recommend just one of those movies for me to watch what would it be? I might stop over to Blockbuster this weekend *grin* But please don't say Sense & Sensibility!! I won't even give that one a chance LOL.
