I have heard that lye is dangerous. I use all natural cleaning products in my house. apple cider vinegar and hydrogen peroxide used within 10 minutes of each other kill more bacteria than chlorine bleach. Also Dr. bronners miracle soap to clean your oven, do your dishes or brush your teeth and take a bath with. It is expensive but you use very little for it is very strong. (organic). I use borax for my clothes and 1/4 cup applecider vinegar in the rinse cycle as a softner. You do not smell the vinegar it dissapates real fast and smells fresh and clean. Baking Soda and apple cider vinegar to unclog a drain or clean the toilet. Hope this helps.
