For me, the pill approach worked, and...didn't work. Even with the physical craving diminished, the psychological remained.
Water fasting is the quickest way to give me a new slate. But, early on, it's so tough. I'm on day six, the hunger has dissipated, and craving for alcohol disappeared.
I need to get far enough beyond the comforting high of beer, far enough to "forget" it, and then try to replace it with an overall depression-elimination program. Something that will raise my serotonin levels naturally.
Hang in there! Try to keep your consumption lower, if that's possible. :)
