Re: Need support - delighted by what I'm reading!
Hi Dragongirl,
I know what you mean about the treatment programs. And statistically, they're not even that effective. I admire your ability to control your alcohol use.
I couldn't. I was drinking 12-18 beers a day, starting the moment I awakened in the morning--5:30 a.m.!
Here's the sad story. I was able to quit completely last year--through a seven day water fast--and maintained it for four months, until I slipped a bit, and then plunged.
According to the research--Fuhrman and Shelton--water-fasting is the quickest and "easiest" way to drop an addiction. And boy did it work for me. Absolutely no craving afterwards.
So what happened? My problem was complacency. And coffee. Strangely enough, drinking coffee sends me right to the booze. I now realize I can't do either.
Anyway, I finally hit bottom again, after months of rationalizations, and trying the vitamin and amino acid supplement approach, attempting to taper back, and now I am on day five of another water fast.
This time...no slipping.
I wish you the best!
Dave
