Re: How much Vitamin C do you take?

"Dont take it much these days although the last two I have and I've taken up to 50 grams. I used to daily take 18 grams+ "

I would be shocked if anybody would've survived that. The neurological damage would be instant at a dose like that administered to a human being, in my opinion. Why 18 grams when the body is only capable of absorbing 300 mg per day? I've taken 500 mg daily for several years-have never had a virus, cold, anything to speak of. Why would I risk causing major kidney complications when I can take 500mg daily- with a fraction of the worries?

Schizophrenia and OCD tend to run hand in hand. Often times, those with OCD tend to suggest folks take big doses of things, possibily due to a fascination with numbers. Anyone posting up 10 articles per day on the bird flu, posts that are suggestive that it's an invented strain when in fact every single case of flu throughout history has started in China every year for the logical reasons of over population, just a personal opinion here, of course, but for any of those considering taking this type of C dose without knowing where there albumin, ph gravity and creatine are sitting at is, without question (In my opinion), walking a fine line.

Some of our "Natural health experts" around here better start to take a look at their own doorsteps, one would think. Some have apparently lost their ability to rationalize, appearing unable to consider the possibility that some might just be off their rocker here when it comes to some of these suggestions. Why are you proposing that innocent people that don't have a firm understanding of all of this volunteer themselves as guinea pigs, just so that some of you can have one single "Proof" that "your" theory is valid.

I'm not targeting anyone, nor is it my intention to attack any such theories relating to these types of proposals. But what I do know is this-
A)High dose Vitamin C supplementation (As in 1.5 grams or more per day) is ill advised in those with possible kidney disease/renal failure. At the minimum, one would think that anyone suggesting that someone take 50 grams (!) of vitamin C daily might want to discuss a metabolic panel with their own docs before doing anything like that.
B)No study has ever proven that the human body is capable of absorbing more than 300 MILIgrams of C daily.
C)Long term, high dosages of Vitamin C have been traced to an addictive mechanism with the vitamin itself.

I personally believe in the power of C, very much. I've seen it in my own case. But 500mgs is far from 50 grams(!).

I can tell you this much-If I'd take one hundred of my C pills on a daily basis, I'd be hanging out of a tree in the nude wearing only a Batman mask. That might explain for some of the odd behavior around here, if in fact certain people are doing this type of stuff.

But I'm just an amateur, of course, so what do I know. Perhaps I need to increase my dose to 20 grams a day in order to get on the same brain waves as those who believe the Smurf family are living in the rocky mountains, right close to that good ole' Denver airport.

It's amazing to see what comes of the mind when its own reality ventures off.
