Excellent antioxidant "coctail"
For the past couple years, I've been taking a cocktail of anti-oxidants focused on avoiding syndrome X and hoping to avoid realizing my genetic pre-disposition to diabetes. I have lost many relatives to diabetes. Diabetes is horrible. Over time, it affects vision, mobility and dexterity.
I based my cocktail on peer reviewed research using N-acytle cysteine to increase glutathione levels. They say to use at least 3x as much other anti-oxidants as N-A-C along with it. I use Vitamin C, E, alpha lipoic acid, magnesium, selenium and chromium.
I take 600 mg of time release N-A-C 3x per day. Time release formulation is important as NAC is processed out of the body by the liver in about two hours. My bowel tolerance for Vitamin C is lower than many people on this forum, so I take 1mg 3x daily, along with 300 mg alpha lipoic acid and 400 IU vitamin E.
I really believe that NAC, an amino acid, is under appreciated. It thins mucous in the lungs as well as detoxifying heavy metals in the liver. It is even used in the emergency room to detox people from Tylenol overdose.
