Re: Electric Shock Help!!

The pain is usually late in the day. It comes when my teeth are apart(not touching). It catches me off guard, most of the time. There's nothing gives me an indication of when it's about to happen, it usually happens w/o warning.

I went for a 2nd opinion to another dentist, whom took x-rays of the root canal, and said it looked good(done properly). My crown on the tooth next to it is made of porcelain w/metal on the bottom. The dentist says it's rare for the thin metal to go through the porcelain and attract the Amalgam underneath.

He also suggested that before i have my molar crowned, to have the dentist replace the Amalgam w/composite. Also, the dentist repositioned my bite, although he believes it was not the problem.

His other suggestion is that i may have to live with it.

I've heard of Trigeminal Neuralgia which is caused by damage to the trigeminal nerve (face)that mimicks tooth pain(by an electric shock type pain).

by definiton:
disorder of the fifth cranial (trigeminal) nerve that causes episodes of intense, stabbing, electric shock-like pain in the areas of the face where the branches of the nerve are distributed - lips, eyes, nose, scalp, forehead, upper jaw, and lower jaw. By many, it's called the "suicide disease". A less common form of the disorder called "Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia" may cause less intense, constant, dull burning or aching pain, sometimes with occasional electric shock-like stabs.

The middle(2nd branch) of the trigeminal nerve affects upper lip, upper teeth, upper gum, cheek, eyelid/side of nose.

I'm hoping this isn't what i'm experiencing, but i will most likely need to get it checked out. Since every dentist i've consulted is telling me that the environment inside my mouth (amalgam) & locations aren't typical for the types of pain i'm experiencing.

Well, i'm going to search around, thanks for your help.
