I believe they also make walkers with a built in seat. I think it folds down when they need to take a rest and then folds back up when they're ready to go. I wish I could advise you on manufacturers, but I never paid attention to what the different brands were.
And you are so right about them looking better than they used to! I used to get such a kick out of some of the residents who would add bicycle basket to the front of them...sometimes with streamers or bells too, and others who would attach elaborate silk flower arrangements to them or paint them bright colors. This was also very practical in a nursing home so that they could always tell which walker belonged to them! And some walkers also have wheels on them now.
Another humorous site is seeing folks CARRYING their walkers instead of using them as walkers. This often happens when they initially start using their walker and they just won't put the legs down. I suppose it's one of their final acts of defiance against not be able to function as they used to...poor things. But it is rather amuzing to see!
