Hello -
Well, in answer to your question in part, I just watched World News Tonight and they finally announced a gov't study that showed that taking calcium supplements does not decrease the risk of osteoporosis -- and in fact, increases the development of kidney stones.

This is something that I and many other natural healthcare practitioners have been telling people for years!

We don't need more calcium in our diets in this country - and certainly not any more dairy. We are one of the highest dairy consuming countries in the world and also have one of the highest rates of osteoporosis! It's not about dairy or calcium. There are traditional cultures that don't consume diary at all - the Asian countries for example, and yet they have almost non-existent osteoporosis.

Sorry if I sound like I'm ranting. But the whole calcium supplement, dairy thing with regard to osteoporosis is a sham supported and fueled by the food and supplement industry that stand to benefit from it. It is not based on any sound research -- which finally, thank goodness, is starting to come out in the mainstream media.

If you are concerned about getting enough calcium - which you more than likely don't need to be because, once again, as a country we are getting plenty of calcium -- take a green food supplement that contains the sea vegetables - the highest calcium containing foods, that is also the best absorbed.

We have very high rates of osteoporosis in this country because our systems are very acidic from all the junk we eat, lack of exercise, environmental pollutants, estrogen dominance, etc. Consequently, alkalizing your system and making sure your body is producing enough progesterone - a major contributor in bone production - are at the top of the list for preventing osteoporosis. Weight bearing exercise, reducing stress and all the other elements of an ongoing healthy lifestyle of course, too.

Hope that helps. If you did not see the reports out today about the calcium, highly recommend you check into it. I'm so glad this info is finally coming out!
