Yes, I have. Used to raise chickens myself, years ago. Did not have to scrounge though, had plenty of table scraps to augment the worms, etc that they scratched for. Never used layer mash and did not have any shortage of eggs except during moulting.

As far as traveling to S.E. Asia, I have not, but my brother-in-law just came back from 4 years in China, Thailand, Vietnam, etc. So, yes, my info about these areas is second hand but I trust him better than I do the news or anyone else that I do not know personally.

You did notice that I mentioned cock fighting: egg production is not so important with this.

It is amazing how chickens have survived for so long without "layer mash".
