Did you get directions with your board? It is important to have the bucket high enough, otherwise it will take hours.
If you don't want to buy ky jellie or glide you can use the olive oil.
The easiest way to get the tip in, is, while you are still standing, put oil on the stick. And then put it in your anus to lubricate inside. After that you put some more oil on the tip and connect in the 3" tube. One of the reasons it is hard to get in because the layers of skin. When you guide the tip to the hole, use both hands to open the hole while you work the tip in.
If it does not go far enough open the water to clean out the lower part of the bowel. Close water and push tip further in.
Indeed the tube goes on the long tube and the tip goes in the short tube.
You don't have to worry about too much water getting in, because it will just start running out.
You will find that the water goes further and further.

I don't understand about the water not going up. My hose has a hard bend that sits on the edge of the bucket, so it is not able to close up.

So this was a graphic description, who would ever have thought that we would talk about this stuff. We have gotten so comfortable with this.
