PLEASE don't use KY jelly because it contains solvents which have no place in the body. Natural oil such as coconut or even butter should work well.

And as for flow regulation, you could pinch the tube with your fingers to regulate the flow but better is a plastic or metal adjustable tube clip to manually regulate and stop flow.

Once necessary length of hose for your set up--including enough to allow you to reach the tube--is established cut it to size. Water flow in an upward direction ought not to be a problem if the source is high enough to create sufficient pressure.
