AA is really your best bet. I am myself an alcoholic and had candida myself - I was extremely body-identified and was all the time trying to fix my candida - I was so focused on it that I would block out the fact that I kept on drinking. I later found out that it was because I couldn´t accept the fact that I was an alcoholic. There is no doubt that candida is a very real health problem that at some point needs to be adressed, but it´ll will all fall in place if the 12 steps are followed. I had so much resistance to that program in the beginning, but I can now see that it was what saved my life - not livercleanse, oregano oil, not eating carrots, searching the internet for close to a "million" hours, finding reasons for my spiritual pain in the physical realm. For me candida was a physical manifestation of an imbalance that was present on psychological and spiritual levels. There is nothing in the world that will ever cure me of my alcoholism - I´m not saying that the cravings can´t subside - they can and they did, when my body became balanced through the right diet, supplements and patience. But my psychological addiction to alcohol will not go away - recently someone slammed at my door in the middle of the night where I live in Copenhagen - there was a fire in the building and they guy was totally in panic and his state completely affected me - my first thought was.: Where will i get my alcohol from - that is typical example of the psychological aspect of an addiction as alcoholism. Whenever feelings become too overwhelming or when I face problems(This was more so in the past) my first thought would be to turn to my choice of drug - it was my comfort. What I would turn to whenever there were problems. Also when I got too scared about my candida - the I would down a bottle. At the same time i couldn´t understand why I couldn´t rid myself of candida - I mean I was doing all the right things. Not eating fermented products, taking garlic pills etc. My denial was extreme. I have a feeling that a lot of those suffering from Candida is in a similar situation allthough their choice of drug is not alcohol but food. I have some friends in OA who totally agrees with me - they also had candida and did everything to deny that they couldn´t eat especially Sugar and refined wheat products - they couldn´t understand why they couldn´t "destroy" candida - what they only realized later, was that they were trying to destroy the aspects of their own personality that they didn´t like. They denied those aspects by eating Sugar and then later tried to destroy the yeast(their shadowside) that followed. We live in an extremely body-identified society - personally I have been one of the lucky ones to escape my extreme focus of my body and discover that there is a reality so much larger. I hope that you´ll consider AA - the people there will only try to help and give love to the best of their ability. There might be some that oppose the physical aspect of the disease - personally I think it is wise to look at things in a holistic way. So even though extreme body-identification can be detrimental it should by no means be ignored. Candida is very real and needs to be addressed along with other physical imbalances, but for it to really work, there will have to be focus on other aspects of why you are in the situation you are. I wish all the best for you no matter what road you´ll choose. And no matter what happens, then faith will always be a support for you to turn to, because you will reach the point you were meant to - it´s just a matter of time.
