Hempseed EFA ratio

The typical EFA ratio for hempseed is a perfect match for what the human body requires. EFA's in hempseed/oil are available at a ratio of 1:3 Omega 3 to 6 with 2-4% GLA.

It is also important to note that hempseed/oil has a significant amout of available vitamin E.

I have not found a better oil. Even blends don't come close. Udo Erasmus even thinks now that hemp oil is the best on the planet.

Fats that Heal Fats that Kill

By Udo Erasmus.

"One day in 1990, I got a call from a lady in Los Angeles. She noted that I had made reference to the food use of hemp seed in Russia in my book. We had an interview… A few months later someone sent me the very interesting fatty acid profile of hemp seed oil.

While flax oil is useful for treating degenerative diseases, it is too w3- rich [omega 3] (about four times as much w3 as w6) to be used exclusively for the long term. One can develop w6 deficiency by using only flax oil too long. While it took me about two years to end up with thin, papery- feeling skin that had dried out and cracked easily, w6 deficiency could develop in as short a time as 10-16 months with exclusive use of flax oil.

Knowing this I began to look at producing a balanced w3-w6 oil blend. But other matters intervened, and before I had finished designing my balanced blend, the fatty acid profile of hemp seed oil arrived in the mail.

Hemp seed oil can be used over the long term to maintain a healthy E.F.A. [essential fatty acid] balance without leading to either E.F.A. deficiency or imbalance. This is because it contains w6 and w3 E.F.A.'s in a better long-term balance: three to one. In addition it contains almost 2% G.L.A., the w6 derivative that is a key active ingredient in evening primrose and borage oils. The samples of hemp seed oil we tested contained about 57% LA (18:2 w6), 19 % LNA (18:3 w3), and 1.7% GLA (18:3 w6). Like the fatty acid profile of all natural oils, that of hemp oil will vary, depending on the strain, location, latitude, and weather conditions of the year the plants were grown.

Hemp seeds and hemp oil produce no 'high' in humans or animals. They contain very small amounts of THC, unless the seeds have been contaminated… Hemp seed oil tastes like sunflower oil. It is green in colour due to its content of magnesium containing chlorophyll. Most people that sampled hemp oil preferred its taste over the taste of flax oil."
