urgent question about "topical" antibiotic
Hello! I have used very few oral
Antibiotics in my lifetime. I have, however, repeatedly used a product called "Metrogel" for vaginal bacterial infections. It is basically just a cream that is inserted into the vagina in the same way that something like Monistat would be. Now, I'm starting to wonder if using this drug was just as detrimental to my good flora as an oral
Antibiotic would have been. Although I didn't ingest anything, I still did, in a sense, pump an
Antibiotic into my body. Does anyone know whether it would have been able to gain access to my blood stream and/or digestive tract from the vagina? Oddly, I have never really had a problem with vaginal yeast--only bacterial infections. And I haven't had one of those in quite a while. I have, however, experienced several instances of skin/toenail fungus in the past couple of years. Hmmm. Oh yeah! I also used to put Neosporin on my lips all the time to help with chapping and peeling (for at least a couple of years I did that). This is also a topical anti-biotic, and I get the feeling that I actually swallowed quite a bit of it inadvertently (through licking/chewing my lips and then reapplying, etc.) Is it possible that it, too, could have acted like an oral
Antibiotic in my system? Now I'm all freaking out thinking about this! Yikes. I always thought it was weird that I have been experiencing the symptoms of intestinal/systemic yeast for so long but have never really used
Antibiotics . Maybe this explains it... Please repond if you can tell me anything about this. Thank you!
