Our society is not as god-oriented as many people believe. For all the religion-spewing doctrine out there, we pretty much fall back on fulfilling our needs for survival, regardless of our religion.

strangulate a religious person, and he will immediately begin to worship oxygen. Starve a religious person, and he will pray for food. Dehydrate a religious person, and he will devote his life to finding water. We are animals. Regardless of the big brain that is capable of sophisticated thought, we all revert to our base, instinctive level. This is what we are. Religion and god-attachment come way after having our basic needs met. They are on the same level as dressing well to attract attention from the opposite sex or refinancing our homes to lower our monthly payment.
