Re: mouth lining changes

i had lichen planus mid last year. i know now that it was caused by health worry stress. when i realized something weird was going on in my mouth i went to the dr they said if not gone i 3 weeks get a biopsy...i waited 2 weeks and went to a derm. the first guy (dr in training) said it was lichen planus (leukoplakia) but he had to check w/ the dr. the dr. said i need to do a biopsy it could be cancer. IT WAS NOT CANCER! and 300 dollars later they told me it wasnt. the biopsy was horrible and now i know pointless. by the time the stitches fell out the lichen planus had subsided. i switched to natural toothpaste and rinsing with tea tree oil mouthwash...coffee soda chewing gum sweets all cause flare-ups. i have been able to recognize and stop it was going longer then 2 days. i have founf sites that talk about the lining eroding in your mouth...mine was big time. i had to train myself to ignore it and NOT peel it or pick at it or chew it. when i could feel my lip getting weird and lichen planus i did put some cortiscone cream on it to help ease the symptoms. the last time i had it was after using my boyfriends colgate toothpaste...that is the worst stuff! it is so harsh to your mouth. i am relieved to hear someone else tlak about this until now i was the only one i knew of who had gone through this!! good luck! please dont get a biopsy! it looked like a had a goatee and big lip plastic surgery for 2 weeks after the pointless and expensive biopsy!! he scared me into getting the biopsy...some drs suck!
