Re: high dosage iodine for hypothyroid and hair loss
Anecdotal here. Detoxadine normalized my thyroid levels in about 2 months on blood tests. Went from about a 6.5 TSH, to about a 2. I was asked about levothyroxine after testing higher, but I declined, and then at the retest, they were normal.
I've been experimenting with a few forms of
Iodine for the past 2 years in varying dosages. Detoxadine works best for me so far @ 6-9 drops a day right on the tongue followed by water first thing upon awakening, and then another 3 drops if necessary in the afternoon. It does give an energy boost and was so enthralled by it, but was put off by the price so I decided to give
Lugols a go. It's not really the same.
Tried Iodoral and got up to 50mg and just felt really bloated and tired and just off. I had massive nausea at the smaller dosages. I stick with liquid versions now.
Lugols can be problematic. It doesn't have quite the same effects for me, even at comparable small dosages, and I'm not sure I understand why. Last week I doubled my dose up to ~30mg (13-15 drops) of
Lugols 2% to battle possible coronovirus infection. It worked. Once I'm sure that I'm over it in a few days, I'm going back to smaller dosages of Detoxadine. I felt great, comparatively. With the dosage increase came massive anxiety, some depressive thoughts, some breakouts, headaches, pretty standard detox symptoms. They passed in a few days and I'm not feeling sick anymore which is a relief. The thing that helped the most was the salt loading recommendation in the
Iodine protocol. It's a bit gross to get down, but not so horrible and it does help.
There are missing companion nutrients in your regimen. I'd add 2000-3000mg C later on in the day, and B2, B3, Selenium a little bit after the liquid Lugols. These are really important as they help the
Iodine get to where it needs to go and flush things out. If you're unaware of the Iodine protocol, read Dr. Brownsteins book.
That being said, I'll never go past 12 drops of Detoxadine (650mcg per drop) a day due to the price point. I'm not sure if the same detox happens at higher dosages with Nascent. Speculate that the energy comes from the fact that it is processed differently in the body, almost immediately, as well as not having the added potassium that's in the liquid forms of Lugols. Not sure though.
Going forward, I think if I feel the need to dose higher dosages, I'll add liquid
Lugols transdermally in addition to the oral Detoxadine. Transdermally, I seem to get energy benefits with way less of the side effects with continued re-application. A much higher dose is needed than oral for a few days at least to really feel the effects (20 drops for me applied on various parts).
Used to have massive clumps of hair loss as well both in the shower and just running it through my fingers. That seems to have stopped, although I can't specifically attribute it to the Iodine because I wasn't tracking that particular symptom. Perhaps from the hypothyroidism being corrected. It is back to being vibrant and healthy without the constant shed. I also take Ashwagandha and a few other adaptogenic herbs and nutritional supplements.
Personally, I'm scared of going to 100mg of Lugols. I know many do, but I've also had problems with higher dosages and spending months of my life being sick in detox isn't a very thrilling prospect. I can afford to go slower over a period of years as long as I'm not battling anything more serious than hypothyroidism. Also have heard success stories with NDT, but that's really a last option for me and not looking likely as Iodine seems to be working decently enough. Best of luck.
