Amelie83 I noticed the same thing happening in my towels and clothing. I think they can continually grow and weave longer and can take on the color of the fabric. Don't ask me HOW they do it, but they are! This photo is from a towel that has a small blue "thread" stitching itself in. This "thread" happens to be a different color than the rest of the towel, or I might not have seen it otherwise.

Here a "hair" is completely and too neatly surrounded by a "white twisty thread", zoom in and you'll see the same "fungal looking" tips :
