Re: Intense Sugar Cravings
I know this was posted years and years ago but I feel like I was meant to see this and reply because I’m going through something similar having just quit drinking after years- I’m an alcoholic in recovery so I understand where you are coming from with this post.... but I’m also an herbalist. I don’t want to step on any toes if your doctor told uou otherwise but you probs can have herbal teas and tinctures (extracts) without adverse reactions. I know they’ve helped me a lot. I can also relate to the
Depression aspect of your post.
Eating well is always a good thing. That is probably the most important thing. But herbs can also be extremely helpful. St John’s wort is tricky because it boosts your liver function to the point that it makes medicines including but not limited to antidepressants ineffective. But it’s important to remember that this is because of a beneficial reason not just a weird quirk of the herb. What’s helped me tremendously in my recovery has been holy basil fir its stress response normalizing effects and kava for its agitation and anxiety relieving effects. Also it’s always important to drink water anyways but more so while you’re working on recovery. I always make sure I have a water bottle on me wherever I go.
There’s lots of misinformation about kava being bad for the liver but it’s based on a flawed experiment where they tested the wrong part of the plant not used medicinally- imagine testing tomato leaves as opposed to the fruit.
I know this was years and years ago but I hope this is helpful to you if you see this or anyone else out there!
