If the problem is bowel gas, it may be yeast overgrowth or gut dysbiosis with yeast, or bacterial overgrowth. The initial cut would not have caused it but maybe all the stress later over the years, with the bad diet...
I would read the book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle, by Elaine Gotschal, and give the Specific Carbohydrate Diet a try, if you can't go to a doctor who can do special testing for the yeast overgrowth. This can be done through Great Plains or Genova labs. Continue follow up with your doc.
It may also be related to overgrowth of sulfur reducing bacteria. Tweet
