Those who profit off of the poor health of others will refute following an alkaline diet first by misrepresenting what it means.

Alkaline diet simply implies limiting certain foods, not excluding any. There are no simple rules in following such a diet and so yes, it is difficult.

Furthermore, saying that it is based on some obscure Acid/Alkaline Theory of Disease is completely false and just used to enhance a straw man argument.
