Re: Reaction to licorice root - how long do side effects last?

I was thinking about this again a couple minutes after my previous post, and I think I have a theory as to what could be causing your symptoms. Licorice raises blood sodium levels; that is why it can increase blood pressure. In your case, I am guessing that the sudden increase in blood sodium has thrown off your electrolyte balance. Include a good balance of sodium, potassium and calcium (and possibly magnesium) in your diet from food sources and you should start to feel better. Of course, do not continue the licorice.
