Re: Reaction to licorice root - how long do side effects last?
I was recently given 500mg dmps during a challenge test. I just got my results back today and I have mercury, lead and tin poisoning. mercury levels are around 58 post provocation
I have since learned that this is a large amount of dmps to be prescribed in one go, but I didn't question the integrative doctor who prescribed it.
It was absolute hell for 3 days after taking the dmps. I felt like I was dying. I had some symptoms of acute mercury poisoning. I believe this dosage mobilized heavy metals out of my cells and into the bloodstream and I could not process them out fast enough. Or maybe it was simply side effects - I don't know.
Interestingly, I have felt good since taking the dmps and since the side effects wore off. More specifically, I suspect I had lifelong traits of erethism (social withdrawal, low self-confidence, eccentricity, melancholy) which have lessened somewhat for the first time in my life since the dmps challenge. I am more confident and more sociable than I've ever been and I'm not sure if it was the dmps or something else.
I also learned during testing that I am heterozynous for the C677T gene which means that I'm 40% less effective in detoxifying than the people who don't have this mutation. This may help to explain the bad reactions to supplements and medications.
I am not sure how they propose to chelate but the doctor thinks I have an allergy to dmps and says they'll do it another way. Since I was positively impacted by the dmps challenge once the side effects wore off, I am feeling that it would be a good thing to do, but I'm also worried that the post provocation results are not reliable and that chelation may do more harm than good, given my reaction to dmps.
I will think long and hard about it before going ahead.
And if I decided to go ahead, I may use something gentler like the Cutler protocol.
