Re: Are there any lawyers among us?
I had just slowed down to the posted speed (45) when I entered the city limits, and was wondering why I hadn't yet seen a 30 MPH sign and watching for it. Turns out the 35 MPH sign was about one block at most from the 45 mph sign. I wasn't anticipating it that soon, so I wasn't watching for it yet. I didn't start expecting the speed to go down from 45 until I was a few blocks into town over the bridge, so I wasn't looking for it.
Not only that, but according to wiki:
"there are a number of limitations to the use of radar speed guns. For example, user training and certification are required so that a radar operator can use the equipment effectively.[6] Stationary traffic enforcement radar must occupy a location above or to the side of the road, so the user must understand trigonometry to "guess" vehicle speed as the direction changes while a single vehicle moves within the field of view. Vehicle speed and radar measurement are rarely the same for this reason. Radar speed guns do not work reliably in traffic, and significant vehicle separation is essential for proper operation when used for speed monitoring.
Mobile or hand-held radar is only reliable when one moving object is in the field of view and there are no other moving objects nearby."
There was a truck traveling in the right hand lane next to me. It turned right about the same time the cop decided it was time to make some money. I saw the lights way back from a distance in the mirror and moved over to let him by, but he came after me. I was somewhat surprised and very disappointed. But I have had three tickets for going 55 in a 35 in the last five years and I believe they are banking (literally) on people just paying the tickets because it is too much of a hassle to challenge. Why do they always say 55? Because they are estimating. And they need to lower the cost of the tickets if they want more people to pay without challenging the system. If more people would start challenging tickets, they would start losing money and there would be fewer cops sitting on the road convicting the people who are paying his salary. How dare they "convict" the people who are paying their salaries?!?!? They need to call it something else. I am not their freaking slave monkey. It is way too hard to make money out here for me to give it to some goons who are calling me a criminal. Intention is key when they are making the laws and it ought to be key when you are breaking them too. I did not intend to break the law. And nobody was harmed. And I was looking around for a thirty sign after slowing down to forty five. HOw dare they threaten to convict me for going 55!!!
This country was intended to be free. In a free country people should be able to do anything they want as long as they don't hurt anybody else or the planet. Otherwise this is all just total BS and we are nothing more than slaves. I refuse to willingly be their slave. And my intention is to make sure it will cost a whole lot more than $283 to convict someone like me, so they can't afford to continue the highway robbery.
