Re: Doc put me on Synthroid

I just heard back from my doc. This is what she said:

"The levothyroxine takes a while to work (1 week before people feel anything) so I am doubtful that the tiredness is related to the medication. Can you give it a few more days? Alternatively you can start with 12.5mcg (1/2 tablet daily) for 1 week, then increase to whole tablet.

Armour is not first line and there are some issues as it contains higher amounts of T3 hormone than your body is used to seeing, so in that way it is actually less "natural" because it is less physiologic (ie doesn't mimic what the body does normally). Also remember that it is derived from pork thyroid but is still a pill make in a factory and has additives just like any other pharmaceutical medication.

I am not opposed to armour but I do feel strongly that we should give the levothyroxine a good try before going down that route.
Think you could try the levothyroxine for a week or so before we give up?
Let me know"
