Re: Why are Christians obsessed with condemning gays?
I guess you are right, most Christians don't necessarily hate gays but a lot of the way that people speak, especially right wing conservatives that present themselves as representing Christianity speak in a very intolerant manner regarding homosexuals. I don't expect Christians to support gay marriage, but I do think the tone that we take on this matter should be changed. That being said, I am not a fan of really any politicians on either side. I think they are a bunch of jokers but the ones that are constantly in the media presenting themselves as Christians and in fact being probably the opposite of what a real Christian should be, having no love in their own hearts but only condemnation for those that don't agree with their biased viewpoint from their own little ego perspective, I think these people are just bringing more hate and intolerance into this world, instead of love and acceptance. How would we as Christians describe Christ as intolerant of all but a sellect few or accepting of all who come to him? Of course, hopefully we all view Christ as loving and accepting of all humanity, now of course he doesn't accept our sinful nature but if we come to him in true sincerity, he will remove all that doesn't align with Him.
I am not trying to debate the issue of is it right or wrong, certainly it is a sin and I am not saying that it should be condoned in the church as proper behavior. But I also think the way that mainstream Christians speak in the media about homosexuality (and many other topics), can be very intolerant and offensive and it certainly is not going to bring any homosexuals running toward Christianity, it is sending them the other directions. Jesus wants all the sinners to come to him and be saved and redeemed and we don't get sinners to come to him by telling them all the ways that they are terrible and transgressing God's laws. We get sinners to come to Jesus by living his Gospel in our own lives and letting his light shine through us to all humanity. We preach of his life and his example and that he loves all people.
