In the recipe the book states:

1/10 Teaspoon cayenne pepper or to taste

It also states that cayenne pepper is necessary as it breaks up mucus and increases warmth by building the blood for an additional lift. It also adds many of the B and C vitamins.

If the cayenne pepper is too much for you maybe you could try a little at a time until you build up to the 1/10 teaspoon. I actually like the taste of the pepper so I am lucky in that respect. I also find for some reason that the drink tastes better made fresh each time. But who has time for that??

Anyway, please don't let the taste deter you from the cleanse. It is such a great thing you are doing for your body and you will get tons of support here. I know I have. The main thing I have learned about this fast is that it is all about your mental ability to accomplish the goal you set. If you set your mind to do it you will do it! Good luck!
